Dr. Mitchell McDowell Performs First Alteon® Short Tapered Wedge Hip Replacement on the West Coast
Groundbreaking procedure completed at Corona Regional Medical Center on June 30, 2025
Corona, CA — July 4, 2025
Dr. Mitchell McDowell, founder of M Bone and Joint, has made history as the first surgeon on the West Coast to perform a hip replacement using the Alteon® Short Tapered Wedge, an advanced implant system designed for optimal precision, bone preservation, and long-term joint stability.
The surgery was successfully performed on June 30, 2025, at Corona Regional Medical Center, representing a major step forward in innovative joint reconstruction for Southern California.
“This implant allows us to be more precise while preserving bone stock, which is a key factor for younger or more active patients who may need future revisions,” said Dr. McDowell. “I’m proud to bring this level of care and technology to our community.”
Advancing Hip Replacement with Modern Design
The Alteon® Short Tapered Wedge, developed by Exactech, is designed with a shortened stem to preserve bone and fit a wider range of patient anatomies. Its refined geometry promotes better alignment and fixation, giving surgeons more control and patients greater confidence in long-term outcomes.
